VALENTINA ILARDI MARTIN
After collecting several portraits of Valentina over the year, I thought it would be courteous to introduce myself to her outside Christian Dior F/W 2011. We decided to arrange a meeting at a café nearby Boulevard Saint-Germain with her husband, Brantly Martin, where I learned more about Grey Magazine. Brantly pulls out two versions of their fifth issue and I pointed over to the one with Karolina Kurkova on it. As Valentina carefully flips through each page, she lays out Grey’s mission statement as a biannual hardcover fashion publication stripped of fleeting trends and focuses on timelessness. “Timeless” was the key word that stuck with me and it’s exemplified by the emphasis on simplicity and beauty. With many well-known contributors passionate about their work, Grey Magazine has become and will remain something more than just a magazine.
