My lens cap almost fell off when I saw Lindsay on the first day of New York Fashion Week. Well, I already had the lens cap off my camera, but you get my drift – simply an awesome look.

Lovely, isn’t she? There’s simply something radiant about her that makes me smile everything time I see her and it’s not often that I have the pleasure of her presence. Jessica was in town and I wanted to do a feature on her summer look, which also gave me the opportunity to experiment with some ideas. We decided to visit Governor’s Island not only because it was her first time but also for its charming colonial houses that I felt was perfect for her style. Coupled with beautiful weather, I felt fortunate and couldn’t ask for anything more.

It’s interesting to see whom you’ll meet at an event such as the Jazz Lawn Party at Governor’s Island. There are the passionate vintage collectors, swing-dancers, jazz musicians, picnickers, photographers, media writers, and fashion lovers who simply love dressing up for an event. Then there are the observers attending the event for the very first time. Valeria, a Russian model who has traveled the world for her work in the fashion industry including modeling for Project Runway Season 2, was avidly taking snapshots at the Jazz Lawn Party. I love her open and vivid personality, as she appeared comfortable speaking with me while we walked deeper in the open fields to get away from the crowd. It was such a delight meeting Valeria and I’m certainly looking to see how her career progresses.

The best thing about attending fashion week is interacting with people that I see so often in fashion magazines and blogs. They’re almost like celebrities in my mind, but instead of going crazy, I’m inspired to capture them the best that I can with the current shooting environment. It was late morning at the Stella McCartney show and the narrow streets were swarmed with photographers. Getting a clear shot wouldn’t be easy and the harsh sunlight made it much more difficult. I knew I had to ask Yasmin to walk with me to a better spot, which she graciously agreed to. I love Yasmin’s style and after meeting such a sweet and beautiful person for the first time, it reinforced my admiration for both of her style and talents.

It was several days into New York Fashion Week Fall 2010 and not a photo of Kate. I was starting to wonder where she was because I always enjoyed her style and presence. Then Kate was at the Oscar De La Renta show and I made sure not to miss the opportunity before she left. I called her name as I made my approach and she responded with familiarity followed by kisses on the cheek. Her response really threw me off granted that I only photographed her twice and I started to wonder whether she actually remembered who I was or had me confused with another person (which happens to me often). Regardless, I had a brief conversation with Kate and had the pleasure of photographing her a few more times in Paris. This time I think she remembered who I was.

I can’t believe the next Jazz Lawn Party is coming up and I’m just posting these photos taken back from July. These are some of my favorite photos that I randomly shot during the event. I still have old photos taken back from Fall/Winter 2010 shows that I need to edit and post before the Spring/Summer 2011 starts because I need to clear out space on my laptop. I understand it may be odd posting up winter style in the middle of summer, but I really need organize my archives for the coming shows.

Besides spending much of my time working on the logistics for my trip to Fashion Week(s) abroad, I’ve been brainstorming on another extended project. When I meet and photograph all these amazing people, I tend to ask myself how I can potentially connect one person to another. This ultimately lead me to focus on establishing a unique invitation-only online community with hopes that it will translate to authentic connections within the creative and fashion community. Because of the complexities with the implementation and launch of an online community, I’m hoping to have something by the end of the year.

On another exciting note, I’m happy to announce that I’m currently in “talks” with a major fashion publication to cover New York Fashion Week. I don’t want to disclose any names until everything is confirmed, so I’m hoping everything gets settled soon!
