UPDATE: THANK YOU to everyone to supported my ride this year! The fundraising was a huge success and I can’t express how thankful I am. Despite windy conditions during the tour, I’m happy to say that I was able to finish the 40-mile ride within 2.5 hours!!
Riding bicycles has been my passion for several years and I try to apply this interest to raise funds for various organizations each year (my most recent for Bike Multiple Sclerosis, raising a total of $1,355.00). On Sunday, May 4th, I will be riding with a team of riders from Lighthouse Guild for the TD Five Boro Bike Tour. Lighthouse addresses the needs of people who are blind, visually impaired, have multiple disabilities and/or chronic medical conditions. I chose to participate with Lighthouse this year because I’ve experienced vision loss myself. For those who may not know, I was diagnosed with Juvenile Glaucoma almost a decade ago and have lost part of my vision since then. Although I am still able to perform daily activities, it can still be a struggle at times and part of it is mentally coping with the condition and an uncertain future. But, on a lighter note, I always joke around with friends how I’d be a horrible bartender, especially with pouring drinks in low light because my depth perception is off. My backhand tennis accuracy was also quite unpredictable. ☺
In any case, I am very excited to participate in the 2014 TD Five Boro Bike Tour as part of the Lighthouse Guild team. This is my fifth time riding this 40-mile, traffic-free course over five major bridges, including Verrazano Narrows, and past many iconic landmarks, but my first riding it with a team for a cause. I’m not asking for much, but anything would certainly be very helpful. Also, contributions made are 100% tax-deductible (for at least U.S. purposes, from my knowledge)!
I hope you will join me as a virtual participant and support my ride with a gift today. Your gift at any level will go directly toward providing Lighthouse Guild clients, patients and students with the services they need.
